Several years ago, Uncle Pat, Aunt Elise and Aunt Eve came to Uncle Lyle's and my house for Sunday dinner. We finished eating and before we ladies started doing dishes, as always, we all sat around our round oak table each nursing a cup of coffee and started telling stories from "the good old days." A couple of years ago, I took out this story, looked up some historical facts concerning the trains that traveled along Highway #63 in Northwest Wisconsin, hunted through pages of details describing transportation during the 1920s and tried to imagine what a Bobsled Schoolbus actually looked like. I quizzed older relatives regarding the schools, winter clothing and road conditions in their very small communities, during the long months of winter. Supported by a bit of literary license, an editor, an artist and production people, for the most part, this is the story Uncle Pat told us that Sunday long ago.
