Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 I was to be the world’s only official wolf interpreter. But government funding did not come through for the position, so I had to give it up. I proposed that the position be privately funded, and it worked. #2 I was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, in the 1950s. I spent my first ten years in the nearby small rural town of Billerica. I had an idyllic childhood there, spending hours outdoors. I became increasingly fascinated with wildlife. #3 I spent many summers in Alaska, and in 1975, the Alaska Legislature asked the federal government to officially change the name of the park to Denali. The name was not to change until 1980, but Denali was the name commonly used in Alaska at that time. #4 I was a migrant worker during those years, moving from job to job. I spent fifteen summers in Denali and three in Glacier National Park, watching and learning about wolves. I was asked to write a book about them, and in 1993 I published A Society of Wolves: National Parks and the Battle over the Wolf.
