Descendants of a successful cotton farmer in Georgia have endowed a college in their name. A chemist named Tom Franklin, who works for a local Sheriff in his forensic lab, is invited to teach a course at the college. The family controls the money and influences the academic direction of the college. In his teaching environment, Tom meets a variety of characters one of which is murdered. Tom is assigned to help investigate the crime which he helps solve.
