Bled White is the Saga of Martin McKinley. The story begins in the nineteen-fifties in Book 1. Martin is a precocious, sensitive farm boy who suffers through rough and frightening times under his guilt laden mother and an endearing humble uncle. After betrayal and tragedy, he leaves the things he loves behind and heads for the big city to fulfill his promise to become a doctor. Almost defeated along the way, he is rescued by an old homeless woman who points him to a solution repulsive to Martin. Reluctantly allowing himself to be manipulated, he inadvertently stumbles onto a piece of his past that stirs his curiosity. He secretly tries to investigate and soon finds he must make a choice, one which would bring him dangerously close to losing his chance to become a doctor. In the second part of Bled White Book 1, Martin is an intern juggling his duties around research projects striving to build an impressive career. Disillusioned of passion, he isolates himself from social activities. Unwittingly he gets tangled in a malicious web of trickery with one of the gullible candy-stripe helpers. At the same time, he is beguiled by one of the nurses. Trapped between desire and resentment he first tries to suppress his lust by shunning her. He tries to fix everything, and ensure his career will be safe, but his life becomes even more complicated when one of his wealthy patients and granddaughter intrude into his life. Greed for money and a passion he won't acknowledge cause him to make a number of decisions which could potentially destroy him. The arrogance he learned to use for survival is well embedded by now and comes naturally. He feels threatened and trapped and is torn between greed and hot-blooded lust. He must choose one. In Bled White Book 2, Martin exposes his full character as the consequence of his choice plays out. Bled White, Books 1 and 2, form a novel about passion and rage, greed and control, courage and despair. It is a story about hearts that are deceived or broken and felt bleeding till there is no more blood. It's about hearts that are bled white.
