Jump to the year 2019 and Elizabeth LaResca is now a civilian police investigator when a young woman's headless body is found. In addition to being decapitated, it appears as though she was tortured. The victim is the daughter of her former boss from her Army interrogation unit . Soon more children of her fellow interrogators are found to have been kidnapped and tortured in the same manner the American interrogators used against the Iraqi detainees so long ago. Elizabeth and her former Army boss Dan, now an FBI agent are both hot on the trail of the killer but more and more children of her colleagues are turning up dead. With her own son missing, the pressure is mounting for her to discover who is committing these heinous crimes and stop the murders. However this case is dredging up memories, forcing both her and Dan to confront their feelings long thought buried about what they did so long ago during the war.
