The Lionhead is one of the newest rabbit breeds and has been evolved following a genetic mutation that reasons the growth of a longer 'mane' of hair around the head. In nature, mutations arise quite frequently, and many breeds result from a mutation that is fixed via a selective breeding programme. The Lionhead gene is the first most important mutation in rabbits since the Satin in 1932, and unlike other fur gene mutations it's miles dominant. Which means that a Lionhead rabbit crossed with a regular rabbit will still skip on the 'mane' gene to a few offspring, generating greater Lionheads. The Lionhead is a small rabbit, weighing round 1.three-1.7kg (three-three3/4lbs). Lionhead rabbits have a compact, medium build with a short, extensive and well-rounded frame. the pinnacle is wide, slightly rounded and close-set on the frame, with short, upright ears.
