There are thousands of undiscovered sunken treasure ships around the world, lost due to storms, piracy, wars, and accidents. Many of these wrecks are believed to hold vast riches in gold, silver, jewels, and artifacts. Here are some of the most famous undiscovered treasure ships: 1. Flor de la Mar (1511) - Indian Ocean Origin: Portuguese Cargo: Estimated $2.6 billion in gold and treasure Lost: Sank off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, during a storm Status: Never found The Flor de la Mar was a massive Portuguese carrack loaded with treasure from the conquest of Malacca. Its location remains a mystery, though many suspect it lies near the Strait of Malacca. 2. Merchant Royal (1641) - English Channel Origin: English Cargo: 100,000 pounds of gold and silver, worth over $1.5 billion today Lost: Sank in a storm off the coast of Cornwall, England Status: Undiscovered Dubbed the "El Dorado of the Seas," this ship was carrying Spanish treasure back to London when it was lost.
