The short-story, is one of the most important literary subgenres in Urdu literature, despite its relative youth. This was influenced by western and literary concepts and tendencies, as well as the contemporary industrial and mechanized environment. Professor Ismat Aara, who has served as the Head of the Department at an Urdu College in Patna (Bihar), is considered one of the women writers of the 20th century who have highlighted social issues along with the delicate emotions of women in their short stories.
