Stricken with a rare and deadly form of incurable skin cancer, Coach Gabriel Thorn must do what medical science hasn't: devise a cure during the year the disease is predicted to return and kill him. He has six months. Gabriel's search for a cure starts in Book One with the break-up of his twenty-two year marriage when, on returning from a coach's party, he discovers his wife making out with a life-long friend whose wife they cremated the previous day. Betrayed when he needs his wife most, Gabriel adopts a "kick ass" attitude and develops an SOP for fighting the cancer: he runs, he coaches, and he writes letters. Anything to stay "positive." Meanwhile Roxanne is resurrecting herself from a 5-year bout with depression after the death of her second husband and is determined to say "yes" to men while training for a hike along the Pacific Crest Trail. Both join the Senior Singles dating website where, after some bizarre and hilarious meetings with other contacts, they are matched. The problem, though, isn't simply the ED the strong-willed Coach suffers from, but the dilemma posed by telling Roxanne about his incurable cancer and his plan to defeat it. The question becomes: will she believe in him enough to believe in his SOP? Or will she leave him?
