This sculpture has inspiration from my time in Vietnam where I found out from an old man that a vase on an altar was to represent emptiness. A profound concept in Buddhism. Struck by the simplicity of the idea, I cut the vase in half to show its emptiness. Upon seeing that it is resembling a human torso, I made a base for it to make it look like a person in lotus meditation pose. I added 5 more beads to the base as the praying beads that monks uses in their daily meditation practice.Later on, I hollowed the top part out to further emphasize the emptiness and allow the space to move around it freely. I kept working on it when I am in the California for a final hollowed out version that you see here. The sculpture might be called Buddha, but the name is a pointer, it points to a state of mind that is free, a state where one is Happy and at Peace with oneself
