On December 7, 1941, the day Pearl Harbor was attacked, seventeen year old Paul Moore was a working as a copy boy at the Associated Press in Washington, DC. Moore went to the Marine Corps Headquarters at 8th and I Streets, and enlisted. Paul Moore spent 27 years on active duty with the Marines, as a Marine pilot and Aircraft Maintenance Chief, retiring with the rank of MSGT E7. He served in WWII at the Battle of Okinawa, in the Korean War, in the Vietnam War, in the first Marine helicopter unit, Marine Helicopter Squadron One, and in the preparations for the "Eagle Claw" rescue of U.S. Embassy personnel in Iran.
