Julie Lescaux, an Englishwoman living in Brittany with her illegitimate young son, becomes intimately involved in a French Resistance operation to rescue downed RAF pilots and must make a dangerous channel crossing to get a Jewish scientist to safety in England and return to rescue her lover from the Nazis.
