Excerpt from The Black Diamond, 1940 It is the hope of the staff that this record will be an ever-present reminder of the happy days spent 'within the walls of Pikeville High School, and remain a key to old friendships. The staff 'wishes to express its appreciation to 'mr. John A. Spelman III, of the Pine Moun tain Settlement School, for permission to reproduce on the mimeograph the illustrations on the division pages of this book. These pictures are taken from his book of wood and linoleum cuts, At Home in the Hills. The staff also expresses its thanks to the Dixie Studio, of Pikeville, and The Strawbridge Photo-finishing Service, of Durham, North Carolina for the excellent photographs our book.
