This episode is part of Lurking in the Shadows: Season 1, an anthology of standalone horror stories. Each episode tells a complete story and can be read in any order. While the episodes do not share continuity, the season concludes with a brief post-credit moment that subtly hints at a larger world. The series transitions into a shared universe beginning in Season 2. Episode 2 A slow burn horror. (This is my own take on the Beast of Bear Creek cryptid and folklore with my own design not accurate to the actual legends from Cleo.) Something is watching along Bear Creek. And it isn't leaving. When a family relocates to a quiet rural town in Texas, the woods behind their new home seem peaceful enough. The creek runs clear. The nights are still. But beneath the calm, something old moves through the trees, unseen and patient. After a local boy vanishes near the creek, fear begins to spread. The authorities suspect an animal. The town looks for simple answers. But two brothers know better. They felt the silence. They felt the eyes watching. And what they encountered does not behave like any animal that should exist. As the disappearances escalate and the truth begins to surface, the family is forced to confront a legacy they tried to leave behind. What stalks Bear Creek is not just a creature, but the result of a curse rooted in history, violence, and secrets passed down through blood. Beast of Bear Creek is a dark, character-driven horror story that blends slow-burn dread with grounded realism, exploring family, inherited trauma, and the cost of surviving what should never have existed. Atmospheric, unsettling, and deeply personal, this story asks a haunting question: what happens when the monster is closer than you ever imagined?
