Masujiro Honda (1866–1925), who wrote this autobiography, may be known to some through his translation such as the English version of Tadayoshi Sakurai's Nikudan (Human Bullets). As to his life and works little is known to the world, but in fact he was a figure who left a significant mark on the world of public diplomacy. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from Trinity College for his contribution to Japan-US rapprochement, though this recognition was strictly from the perspective of private international exchange. This was because the Oriental Information Agency he participated in was regarded as a private one, and its relationship with the Japanese government was concealed. This book of reminiscence is Honda's true story, told through the power of anonymity, revealing truths that could not be written under his real name. It unveils the path that led Honda to engage in public diplomacy.
