Soon after Jeremy Parker is killed during a Civil War re-enactment in the small town of Battleground, his house is broken into, and a set of priceless historical letters are stolen. A two-hour drive away, Dane Daily is in a battle of his own; keeping his P.I. business afloat, and his sobriety at bay. But when Jeremy's grandfather hires Dane to track down the stolen letters, Dane has to fight the urge to pour himself into the closest bottle as he becomes entwined in a sinister web of drugs, violence, crooked cops, and small-town politics.
