This saga begins in the North East of England, in the town of Gateshead. It is 1916 and the war with Germany rages on. In the thick of it is Henry, a womanizer and bully. He is the husband of Fiona, a beautiful and sensitive young woman. Jack, Henry'syounger brother is in love with Fiona and they soon engage in an affair. With a baby on the way Fiona, who is suffering from severe headaches and the worry of her husband returning from the war, attempts to take her own life. She failed, with devastating consequences. Her only son, Johnny is put into a home until his father can take care of him. On his return from the war he does not allow his son to mention his mother's name or question her whereabouts. Jack, Henry's brother leaves Gateshead for London, vowing to make it up to Fiona and Johnny. He soon becomes involved in theillegal world of bare fist boxing. Johnny, after many arguments and beatings from his father decides to leave for the south with two of his mates. The strange thing is, everywhere they go a murder seems to takes place.
