Jim Makichuk's first road trip was as a child on Highway 83 that started from his small town in Canada never knowing that it led 2,500 miles to Brownsville, Texas. From there, his curiosity about highways turned into a half million miles over forty years. It was among those memories of lonely highways and truck stops that Jim discovered a rich vein of stories about everyday people and a few famous ones. It began with a wall map where he had highlighted roads and used pins to identify every town where he stayed and it all began to come back, their faces and their stories and a reason to remember.
