The evolution of the Bowery Boys has more twists and turns then a boxing match. In 1937, they started out as the Dead End Kids, a group of young hooligans from the slums of New York's East River, appearing in several films for Warner Brothers. A year later, Universal borrowed most of the group and cast them in films and serials, under the names of the Little Tough Guys and the Dead End Kids and the Little Tough Guys. In 1939, the group went to Monogram and became the East Side Kids. Then, in 1946, it happened. The East Side Kids were revamped and The Bowery Boys were born. In time, their films evolved into full comedies, transforming Leo Gorcey (Slip) and Huntz Hall (Sach) into a memorable comedy duo. To celebrate this long-running, popular film series, the "Bowery Boys Movie Poster Book, Volume 1" presents, for the first time, rare, color posters from nearly 50 of their movies from the Dead End Kids to the Bowery Boys. Films represented in Volume 1 are: Angels in Disguise (1949) Angels with Dirty Faces (1938) Block Busters (1944) Bowery Blitzkrieg (1941) Bowery Bombshell (1946) Bowery Buckaroos (1947) Bowery Champs (1944) Bowery to Bagdad (1955) Call a Messenger (1939) Clancy Street Boys (1943) Clipped Wings (1949) Crashing Las Vegas (1956) Crime School (1938) Dead End (1937) Feudin' Fools (1952) Ghosts on the Loose (1943) Give Us Wings (1940) Hell's Kitchen (1939) Here Comes the Marines (1952) Hold That Baby (1949) Hold That Hypnotist (1957) Hold That Line (1952) Hot Shots (1956) In Fast Company (1946) In the Money (1958) Jail Busters (1955) Jinx Money (1948) Junior G-Men of the Air (1942) Little Tough Guy (1938) Little Tough guys in Society (1938) Looking for Danger (1957) Master Minds (1949) Mr. Muggs Ridges Again (1945) Mr. Wise Guy (1942) News Hounds (1947) On Dress Parade (1939) Private Eyes (1953) Sea Raiders (1941) The Bowery Boys Meet the Monsters (1954) The Made Me a Criminal (1939) Up in Smoke (1957) You're Not So Tough (1940)
