Ready for a run? It is a daunting prospect that few undertake and even fewer accomplish: thru-hiking The Appalachian Trail. From its southern foot in Springer Mt., Georgia to its northern terminus in Mt. Katahdin, Maine, America's legendary byway offers startling beauty constantly changing terrain and endless seclusion. A challenge for anyone to complete. But to race? The Great Appalachian Trail Race tells the dramatic story of a fierce competition to traverse the entire 2,160 mile woodland journey in the fastest possible time. Among the hundreds vying for the cash prize, the three contestants go head to head: a former collegiate track star recovering from serious injury, a self-serving celebrity athlete and a young woman who knows them both, and has a secret motivation to win. Racing across a rugged landscape, they will all be forced to exert their every ounce of strength and endurance, while reexamining their hearts and values. A lot can happen over two months and 2,160 miles!
