Realistic fiction set in Yucatan, Mexico in mid 1930s. A ten-year-old girl disobeys her parents when she skips school to explore caves and archeological sites. Her personal rebellion coincides with rebellion scenes, allowing her tobecome a heroine and gain her father's respect.
