Peter Davies recreates the sounds, smells and textures of rural Shropshire after the Second World War. It was a time of simple pleasure and innocent discovery, enthusiasm as well as sadness, encompassing the poignancy of young love and the tragic death of Peter's father. His youth was populated by characters as colorful as John the Waggoner and as engaging as Lisbet the Danish visitor who played the 'cello.
