あらすじ
This book contains a dictionary that transcribed the songs and calls of all wild birds living in Japan into English. The dictionary includes approximately 750 bird species and subspecies. The total number of entries, or words, in the dictionary is approximately 3,700.
Transcribed words were extracted from three English field guides to Japanese birds. These guides also describe the circumstances in which the voices are made and the characteristics of the vocalizations. We incorporated this information to create a Japanese Bird Song Database.
This book consists of the following four lists:
(1) Transcriptions and characteristics of the calls made by each bird species. The bird species are arranged in taxonomic order.
(2) The voice dictionary that compiles transcriptions of all bird species and arranges them alphabetically. Each word is accompanied by the name of the species that produced it.
(3) The database was searched for onomatopoeia, adjectives, and verbs used to describe bird calls.
(4) Mnemonic expressions, which imitate bird voices by standard English to make them easier to remember were collected from field guides and bird books.
Finally, three indexes have been provided to help you find a bird's identification number by its English name, scientific name, or Japanese name.
