During the thirty years following WWII, economic growth was broadly shared with the working and middle classes. Housing, education, transportation, and other aspects of daily life saw significant improvements for most people. In contrast, over the fifty years, since 1975, the US economy has been reshaped by the rich, corporations, and political conservatives from both parties. Since 1975, the wealthy and corporations have changed laws and regulations to shift $79 trillion from the bottom 90% to the top 10%, mainly benefiting the top 1%. Wealth and income inequality have soared. These changes have caused increased and deepened insecurities for the bottom 90%. Housing, healthcare, food, jobs, debt, education, family life, and more have become more fragile. The book explains how these changes happened and what can be done to change who benefits from the economy.
