My Dear King Vol.1 is the second title of the My Dear Majesty poetry series written by Lawrence Charles Carroll, the author of My Dear Queen - a poem that encourages young girls to celebrate and love their hair. Inspired by the relationships and lineage of fathers in his own family and his own lived experiences, My Dear King is penned by the author as an open letter to his son. The poetry is a reflection of lessons learned that frames another perspective of how manhood can be defined; engaging readers to consider mental health, emotional intelligence, intuition, work ethic and character when crafting their own definition of a man. My Dear King is meant for boys of all ages, races, ethnicities, faiths and sexual-orientations - any young boy can grow into a King. Volume One is illustrated by Mark Scott Carroll, a St. Louis based graphic design artist of forty years and creator of the original art series On The Other Hand (OTOH)(TM) - a collection of published work drawn in the aftermath of an injury to Mark's dominant hand. OTOH is a body of work created solely using Mark's non-dominant hand, which he used to illustrate My Dear King, reminding us that we're capable of excellence during especially challenging times.
