Finally coming together again believing they are going to finalize their parents' affairs, they find instead the first letter from their beloved mother. The letter provides comfort, advice and a plan: Annabel, Jackson and Maggie are to take a one-month sabbatical from their lives and go on an around-the-world whirlwind trip that their parents planned and paid for just before their deaths. Each sibling has a different reaction to the proposal. Spirited and adventurous Annabel is ready to pack her bags and leave out immediately. Brilliant, athletic, and good-natured Jackson does what he normally does: runs. Beautiful, soulful, new-mother Maggie buries herself even deeper inside her "cave" of depression. The eventual reunion of the trio leads to love, laughter, adventure, and healing as they visit places in the world, and inside themselves, that they didn't know existed.
