This book - "Wings Over The Pacific" - tells the story of the USS Bennington and the pilots that flew Hellcats - F6Fs - off the ship. She was part of the Fast Carrier Attack Force, a group of over twenty carriers that were instrumental in bringing Japan to surrender. The Fast Carrier Attack Force (TF 58 and later, TF 38) was always on the move, and the pilots flew in all kinds of weather. They downed many Japanese planes and hastened the end of the war. However, once the Japanese fighter aircraft were no longer a threat, the U.S. planes flew over the land and were in danger from the flack batteries around the factories and bases. Would Jim Casey make it through to the end of the fighting?
