Manish Rai, an Australian journalist and author, provides a comprehensive account of the Peshmerga, which evolved from a resistance guerrilla movement to a conventional military force in Kurdistan. Peshmerga, which translates to "who face death," is not only defending Iraqi Kurdistan but also effectively combating terrorism and neutralizing the threat posed by ISIS, particularly in Northern Iraq. Rai discusses the origin, struggle, and transformation of the Peshmerga in this book. The geopolitical and security landscape of Kurdistan is also discussed by the author. Rai has travelled to Iraqi Kurdistan several times to undertake journalistic assignments. Rai's work has been cited in the House of Commons, British Parliament, and prominent think tanks such as the RAND Corporation and the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD).
