Many explorers have attempted to descend the length of the Nile River over the last century. At least a dozen died trying. Since 1964, three explorers have been shot, two drowned, and another disappeared. Then Pasquale Scaturro led the team that completed the first successful descent of the Blue Nile in 2004.
