(dis)Connected offers a deeply personal and reflective journey of an outwardly accomplished individual, James Elliott, grappling with the long-term effects of childhood trauma and his subsequent struggle with self-love and trust of self, and others. Desperately seeking healing, he explores therapy, journaling, and the concept of forgiveness, alongside a helpful and very supportive spirit of "Aloha" from his childhood (and ongoing, thankfully) connections to a beautiful little corner of the world¿ Hawai'i. The narrative also details James' involvement with the Survivors & Mates Support Network (SAMSN) and a much-welcomed move towards greater self-acceptance finally connected with a life-long desire, but not knowing how, to support others. Throughout, James shares insights into the impact of physical and emotional trauma on his life and his ongoing efforts to find peace and clarity of purpose, with an aim to connect to/with readers who may have had similar experiences. The achievements were many but in isolation, by a man, wallowing away in a shell of miserable despair, that impacted his personal and family life. However, James found the courage to step up, speak out, and hopefully help others who have experienced abuse, but not been able to heal and move on. His invitation to NASA was a life-changing confirmation of his professional success, and this book, is the confirmation of the healing journey he is on, and shares so generously.
