Sugar skulls originate from the Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) Mexican holiday celebrated on 1st & 2nd November when they are used to decorate gravestones. Traditionally, they were molded from sugar and given colorful decorations of icing, feathers, beads and foil.
