Clark Hallet was a cattle rustler. Using brands and dots on a sombrero, he kept track of the ranches and the number of cattle he stole. Before his death, he pleaded with his sons, Starr and Lane, to sell their ranch and make restituion--including interest--to each of the brands. The sombrero of many brands is passed on to the next generation of Hallets, one of whom is accused of murdering a sheriff.
