In this fable depicting long-term effects of child abuse a Northern Minnesota woman named Collette Starr is brought to life. Collette is 36 years old now and is just beginning to wonder if she is the only one who has memory lapses or does everyone, or most everyone have them as well. Because of her memory lapses she finds it difficult to maintain employment. She ends up on the 'System' while she maintains a relationship with Bob. Bob doesn't always treat Collette very well but his humor keeps her laughing most of the time so she tolerates his less than desirable attitudes. Because of her poverty line demographics as well as marital status and other factors she is chosen to participate in an experimental drug testing study by a few corrupt drug company employees without her consent. She experiences disturbing, unnatural encounters with animals, who, as it turns out, are also being tested on with experimental drugs. After enduring a frightening abduction she is taken to South America where she begins taking a Rain Forest drug that brings her to her past and reveals a concept she has never considered. Is someone else causing the memory lapses? Someone who is invisible? Before leaving home, she had become familiar with a man named Mark who she is skeptical of because he asks too many questions and answers too few. Turns out, the FBI is aware of the fact that abductions of vulnerable adults are taking place across the country. The FBI is also aware of the fact that many of the abducted persons do not come home. Mark has been assigned to find out why and he ends up in the same drug testing arena as she, facing many of the same risks. It is up to him to solve the case and bring Collette home unharmed and bring justice to the drug company employees responsible for the deaths of an estimated 50 people for the drug company employees own personal profit.
