"Herm's New Shell" is about a hermit crab child that loves his shell and does not want to give it up. The shell becomes more and more difficult for him to use, and eventually becomes so tight that he is unable to eat. The book is about his final acceptance of the change to a new shell, and at the end he sees that getting a new shell was a good thing. It is a story about accepting change for young children.
