A collection of the ten best short stories written by John Barroso, translated from Portuguese by Linda Loewer. These short stories were selected from the author's three books published in Brasil (Contos Psicologicos, Almas Invisiveis, Tropicos e Tropicadas). The short stories vary in length from one to six pages, they deal with conflicting issues in the Brazilian culture such as women's oppression, minority oppression, breaking relationships, complicated relationships, bullying and animal abuse. These short stories, somehow as described by critics fall within the Minimalist category, some have called them realist or regionalist. These are the ten stories, in translation: Raquinho, The Insult, Cunning Adam, The Dog, Little Party, Malhada and Aracatuba, Chaw, Glass of Wine, The Right Hand, Brief History of the Kingdom of Oranoslob.
