Excerpt from Das Mädchen Von Treppi, Und Marion March 15th, 1830. He received his first instruction from his father, K. M. L. Heyse, the philologist and lexicographer, and afterward devoted himself to philological studies under bockh and Lachmann, at the University of Berlin. Afterward, at Bonn, he studied the Romance languages and literatures under Diez. In 1850 Heyse went to Italy for the purpose of examining the manuscripts to be found in the libraries Of the Italian cities. On his return, at the invitation of King Maximilian II.
