This book is about my 2019 journey growing more than two thousand industrial hemp plants on my family's farmlands in the Red Hills region of northeast Leon County, Florida. As a farming partner participating in the FAMU|CAFS Industrial Hemp Pilot Project, my family became part of the first group of private farmers in Florida to legally grow and cultivate industrial hemp on their own land. From our humble cottage industry, sugarcane syrup operation to being issued a planting permit in the inaugural year for Florida's industrial hemp pilot project, the following pages and photographs will demonstrate the issues our small family farm encountered along our journey including the genetics we chose to grow, our soil preparation and cultivation techniques, and how we harvested the plants.
