あらすじ
The five Latin Declamations brought Vives (1492-1540) to the attention of the literary community in 1520. He soon abandoned the creative genre for straightforward prose, but returned to the Declamations late in life, revising and republishing them in 1538. They are fictional speeches by the Roman Republican dictator Sulla (138-78 BC) on his abdication. George (emeritus, classics, Texas Technical U.) presents the Latin text and English translation on facing pages, with linguistic and topical footnotes respectively. The first two Declamations are in volume one. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
