Life is hard. Even as Christians, we can feel like we're drowning at sea. Storms abound, and we can find it difficult to keep our head above water. We learn one thing about Jesus, though: He knows how to walk people on the water. Using the scriptural account of Jesus walking Peter on the water (Matthew 14:22-33) as a background metaphor, The Five Practices of Walking on Water mines the depths of Ephesians and Colossians to uncover practices and principles by which we will walk hand in hand with Jesus through the storms of life. Whether we are striving to no longer walk like the Gentiles or walk in love, light, and wisdom, we find walking worthy of our calling as impossible as Peter walking on the water in the middle of a storm. While Peter only walked on water because Jesus is good at walking people on water, Peter had to get out of the boat. He had to rely on and respond to Jesus's command to come onto the water. We will walk worthy of our calling not because we are good at walking, but because Jesus is good at walking us in light, love, and wisdom. However, to walk on water, we, like Peter, have to get out of the boat. That is, we have to hear Jesus's instructions and respond by faith to what He says. The principles which make up The Five Practices are the practical ways we rely on the grace of Jesus to walk on the water throughout these storms of life. The Five Practices of Walking on Water is a scripturally-based, discussion-oriented class providing practical tools for spiritual growth and maturity, to overcome sin, and find victory together as we encourage one another to keep looking to Jesus while we walk through the storms of life.
