THE GREATEST GIFT is the first children's book published for general circulation by Dan Reed (Better known as "Papa" by a bunch of people he loves). The words were originally written as a poem, later set into a self published book/pamphlet form and illustrated by Dan, who admittedly draws like a six-year-old. That roughly formed little booklet was distributed only among friends and family and still lies upon some of their coffee tables during The Holiday Season year to year. This latest iteration, with the professional looking illustrations came about serendipitously as the result of a trans-Atlantic phone conversation with granddaughter, Sparrow, one day in 2021. (Sparrow lives in Ireland and has for several years.) Dan now lives in North Central Texas with Denise, his wife of over 30 years. But it was while working as a car salesman in Oxnard, California almost half a century ago that the words to the poem "The Greatest Gift" first jumped onto paper from Dan's mind. It happened within the timespan of less than a half-hour while he was sitting waiting for customers to come onto the used car lot. The poem was read for the first time at a family gathering the next day.
