May,1711, a raid by an unsanctioned splinter of the Inquisition fell upon the most northwest Irish stronghold of the kingdom, Conghalach Manor. It was a supposedly easy sweep of riches and land for the Inquisition to divvy the plunder. No Lord or sons commanded the peasants. It was almost too easy as they laughed to their conquest. Her Ladyship was carried to Conghalach Manor by farmers who found her body battered and unmoving by the Inquisition. The village held a revolt against the Inquisition, holding them at bay from the Manor where only the daughters remained. Her Ladyship and her daughters served them as midwives and medicine women. And practicing witches the three daughters were not because they had not been trained by their mother. The natural power did not bloom like a rose until piqued by a teacher, anger, or fear. Thus the three teenage Conghalach sisters, Meredith, Clarice, and Cecily found themselves on the run from the Inquisition just as their powers exploded, leaving a blood bath in their wake. Knowing that the three of them could not stay together because it was much easier to track three witches than one witch, they planned their separation. One of them would head east, one of them would go to Italy, and one of them would keep the name Conghalach on her travels west. And all was quiet for 300 years.Over the years magic can twist and change, especially as it wends its way to New Orleans, Louisiana, encompassing the life of Therese Laveau Conghalach during World War II. Therese has had use of her powers since she was a toddler, perhaps because the blood of Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau runs through her veins as well. Therese is a teenager, pregnant, and unmarried, at the pinnacle of stress in her young life as she goes into labor in the middle of a pharmacy where they try to put her out on the street. And when the rest comes to fruition with her child's father, all hell will break loose.
