It was Depression time and movies were an outlet for families, costing a dime, and sometimes it was bank night while turning the drum hoping ones number would come up for a $100.00 or do. Bill and I believed we were the Tom and Huck of our time, but in New Cumberland not Hannibal. Down the street was a deceased elderly neighbor, with viewing in the living room, a common practice in those days, instead of the Funeral Home. Without telling our parents, Bill and I stopped each day so we could write our names in the guest book, something we learned in school because we needed practice. Like my grandparents and parents, living a most important part of history has given me wisdom.
