This is a love story. An unconventional one, to be sure, but a love story nonetheless. It's about the author, Sara Taft, who had to face death in order to discover the deep, authentic ground of life - her life, as no one else could live it, and in doing so found her indigenous spiritual roots by returning to a Christianity she never really knew. Like all love stories, this one features a beloved, though this beloved is not a living, breathing person. Rather, she is Mary Magdalene, the companion and disciple of Jesus, a woman reviled and revered through history.
