The ores from which most of the copper is smelted, is I such as hold sulphur in combination.. To this class the Texas ores j belong, and they surpass in richness any other sulphuret of eopj per. Among the other copper ores of Texas which merit atteni tion, are the green and blue carbonate, the red oride, in combinaj tion with the native copper and the siliceous copper ore. Texas' I resources in copper are most extensive, and when railroads i become more numerous, the mining of copper will become a large j and profitable business. At present, in spite of the difficulties of j transportation, the Texas ores can be wrought with greater profit I than any others. Among the many advantages which Texas possesses may be j mentio ed the fact, that while in the districts last referred to, the j barren, isolated hills are covered and filled with copper, at their feet are to be found the most delighful mesquit prairies, possessing j every agricultural and pastoral requisite. Not far from the point j in question, viz: the vicinity of Archer, Wichita and Haskell j counties, coal crops out in abundance, rendering this spot one of j surpassing mineral and agricultural wealth. Beside the locations I indicated above, there is yet another region rich in copper among I I the Chanette Mountains, in Presidio county. SILVER AND LEAD. Silver and lead are found in combination in Texas. Their princi pal sites are in El Paso, Presidio, Bandera and Llano counties.
