Lucky is a hardback full-color book with 26 pages illustrated by Shirley Jackson Whitaker, MD MPH, the book's author. Although this is her first children's book, she is no stranger to the art world. Dr. Whitaker has a book of etching presently in the rare book collection of the Library of Congress. Because of her desire to create something to celebrate the beauty of Black girls, she created Lucky. Dr. Whitaker is a Nephrologist living in Amherst, Massachusetts with her family.
