From the day he was born, eighteen-year-old, Edwin Vanderwalhas been looking forward to death. An anti-social, high-school student with a dismal outlook on life. He lives at home with his neurotic mother and absentee father. Little does he know, however, that his parents harbour dark secrets. Secrets that inevitably come to light when he is forced into travelling across the country to the world-renowned Tophet Institute for the Arts. It's October 31st, 1999, Halloween night, long-term employee Garrick Craig is in the midst of a life-threatening meltdown. A chronic gambler with a sad and dysfunctional past. He's barely holding on to his job, deeply in debt to a bookie, and saddled with an apathetic, an unwilling trainee, who reminds him of how far he's fallen from grace in fifty-plus-years. For his part, Edwin doesn't care. He's not even supposed to be an employee. It's all a mistake. He's no custodian. He's supposed to here for some educational workshop.Unfortunately, for him, fate says otherwise and as the ordinary becomes extraordinary, he comes to find out that things aren't always what they seem. In fact, they're far from it and if he's not careful he just might meet death sooner than he expected. Murder, mayhem, and misadventure abound in this fast-paced tale of two luckless losers whose lives unexpectedly collide in the mountains while the fate of the world hangs in the balance.
