February 1994, East Texas, Lilli Anne, a junior at Lindale High, was a responsible 17-year-old. Her shift as a Sonic carhop was winding down. Her last customer left a sizable tip. She departed her job shortly after 10:00 p.m. The following morning Lilli's mother discovered her precious daughter did not come home. Nearby law enforcement and Texas Rangers launched a search, but their quest was to no avail. A few months later, unknown by local citizens, the same wickedness migrated through rural Wise County. Just as darkness settled upon Decatur's town center, a handgun-wielding masked man committed an aggravated robbery of the Supreme Salon down the hill from the courthouse square. The community, Sheriff Bill Bryan, the Sheriff's Office, and a newly promoted Texas Ranger relentlessly sought the criminal's identity. Investigative findings revealed the soon-to-be-defendant. In his path there were other young victims and numerous missing females across the Southeastern states. Evidence indicated many fell as prey of this homicidal felon. After a foot chase, the culprit was injured and taken into custody. Dedicated Wise County residents, law enforcement officers, and prosecutors presented the Texas Criminal Justice System at its best and convicted the defendant in the 271st District Court. Immediately after the jury's sentencing, unsuspected internal corruption rose to the surface, endangering the population of Wise County. An attempted assassination targeted Texas Ranger Dan Allen and compromised the Ranger's fledgling family.
