Set in the South in the 1930s, Johnny and Will are identical twin boys who are separated at an early age. Will is part of a happy, well-off family near Birmingham, Ala. In Tennessee, Johnny is trying to survive neglect and abuse at the hands of his mean-spirted aunt.
