Michael is a fairly typical young man who has an unusual fascination with comic books. He is constantly reading them, thinking about them, even creating his own comic book characters to pit against one another in fantastic arenas that exist only in his own mind. For him, reality is only a place to visit when he cannot be in his own world. This humdrum way of life is bound for a change, however. One evening, while out with his friends, the young man finds himself face to face with the Dark Dragon, a creature born of his own imagination. The strange and powerful villain vows revenge on the helpless teenager for a crime he refuses to define, then vanishes. Empowered by a mysterious force he calls the Ether, Michael and his friends must now find a way to stop the Dark Dragon, who seems intent on destroying everything they hold dear.
