A Land Rover is the hero of this book. Assembled from the parts of several vehicles and converted into a camper, the author and his girlfriend drove it from the Middle East back to England, diverting through Africa on the way. The trip took place in 1980. In 2016 much of it would now be impossible. Michael Palin, for example, was thwarted by the Sahara as long ago as 2001.
